“I’m Coming Home”, the three words LeBron James delivered less than two years ago that shocked the sports world. He won two NBA championships with the Miami Heat and was coming back to win one for his hometown and break the drought.
The NBA star and the Cleveland Cavaliers did something that no other team in the history of the league had done. They came back after being down 3-1 in the Finals; they not only won three straight games for the title, they did it against a team that set a record finishing the season at 73-9.
James finished the game with 27 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, becoming just the third player in NBA history to record a triple-double in an NBA Finals Game 7. He is also the first player in NBA history to lead all players on both teams in all five categories for an entire playoff series; he led in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.
LeBron sobbed on the floor of the Oracle Arena overcome with emotion after delivering on his promise, breaking Cleveland’s 52-year losing streak; their last championship came in 1964 with Jim Brown and the Cleveland Browns.
“I gave everything I had. I poured my heart, my sweat, my tears into this game,” James said afterward. “Cleveland, this is for you!”
And of course, the King was named Finals MVP.
