Emily Austen works for Fox Sports, covering games for both the Tampa Bay Rays and Orlando Magic but she may not have that job for much longer. She has been removed from any future broadcasts for the network after she went on “Barstool Sports” daily rundown show and made countless idiotic, racist comments all while cameras were rolling live. Usually the show is taped and then edited before it’s posted online but this time they either did things different or someone messed up but either way Emily is paying for it and she should.
@IamJoeSports
She started off by calling Kevin Love “a little bitch” and then when one of the co-hosts says she is coming in hot, she reiterates how she feels and calls him a bitch again. Maybe if she wasn’t so desperate to come off like she is cool and draw attention to herself with her “hot take” then maybe the ignorance that was about to come out of her mouth would’ve never happened. Even the comment about Love just seemed so generic and she was only saying it for a reaction.
She then goes on to say she “doesn’t know Mexicans were that smart” in regards to the high school valedictorian that had a 4.94 gpa who recently revealed she was an undocumented immigrant. She then also goes on to talk about the intelligence of Chinese people when it comes to math, as well as numerous comments about Jewish people.
She messed up by forgetting she works for a major, national publication that has a corporate structure and sponsors and more. The guys at Barstool could get away with sounding like clowns because nobody really cares about them but when you work for a major place like Emily does, you can not be talking like that in public and not expect a backlash.
The people at Barstool apparently also knew this wasn’t going to end well because they deleted the entire live video that was on their website and offered this explanation as to why.
So we tried an experiment today. We used Facebook Live for the rundown so people could watch it raw. Then we (Hank probably) somehow deleted the video which was supposed to be edited for the actual show today. Long and short of it is if you didn’t watch it in real time you missed it.
It didn’t take long for Fox Sports Florida senior vice-president Steve Tello to comment about it, revealing Austen has been removed from future broadcasts.
We were made aware that Emily Austen appeared in a social media video unaffiliated with FOX Sports in which she made insensitive and derogatory comments. She was not speaking on behalf of FOX Sports, nor do we condone any of the statements she made in the video. Emily has been advised that her comments were unacceptable, and she is not scheduled to appear on any upcoming FOX Sports Florida or FOX Sports Sun broadcasts.
