Dominiq Greer had announced he was seeking a lawsuit for $15 million from the city after he claims he was shot seven times by police. While Greer was waiting for an Uber ride home, he was approached by a squad car. Upon the approach, Greer was arrested after having a warrant for murder.
Greer’s lawyer, Eugene Hollander, released a statement saying,
“I had no clue. It’s definitely a surprise to me. He was going to grab an Uber back home and as he was waiting a squad car pulled up.”
Greer was arrested on a warrant for the murder of 22-year-old Kevin Larry.
Anthony Guglielmi, chief spokesman for the department says,
“We became aware he was holding a press conference for a civil suit against the police department, and the police department doesn’t wait to apprehend people accused of murder.”
May 27, police responded to a a call about gun shots in an apartment in the 5600 block of South Wabash. After arriving, police found Larry shot in the chest. Witnesses claim before the shooting, Greer was playing a card game and the game got out of hand.
During Greer’s press conference, he said he got a gun to protect him after the murder of his friend. He says he tried to throw the gun away when he was shot 7 times by officers. He also provided footage. He believes the police should have chased him down rather than shoot at him.
“They should have did their job and try to catch me instead of shooting me. If I ain’t never bring no harm to you, why would you bring harm to me.”
