It has not always been rainbows and butterflies for actress Kerry Washington. Kerry Washington has worked to have her Gladiators behind her. Before her renowned role in Scandal, Washington stated “I was actually cast in two other pilots. Both went to series but I was fired and recast. For both, it was because they wanted me to sound more ‘girlfriend’, more like ‘hood’ more ‘urban'”
The actress speaks to PBS in an exclusive interview where she explains her struggle with racist typecasting just like every other minority actor or actress. Last I checked in order to be an actor you need to be able to portray not only stereotypical characters but be able to provide a variety of different attributes that could contribute to portraying ANY type of character. When will remove the stigma from society? A white girl can’t have a little hood in her? Kerry Washington can’t speak proper English? The full interview airs on both June 12th and 19th on PBS SoCal Network
