Troy Ave is currently locked up without bail, facing murder charges for the shooting that went down at Irving Plaza late last month. As he continues to declare his innocence, the Brooklyn rapper released a project of music he’d recorded before the incident.
Originally titled Real vs. Fake, Troy has fittingly renamed the 12-track project to Free Troy Ave, and opens it with a freestyle that he did over the phone from jail. On it, he addresses the shooting, as well as his feelings about his now-deceased friend, Banga.

“I lost my best friend and the sad part about it is that I didn’t even realize he was my best friend until I lost him,” Troy says as he introduces the freestyle. He continued:
“And that shit hurt worse than the bullets from when I got shot. Plus there’s other elements that are out of my control. I can’t mourn properly for my n*gga I don’t even remember the last time I cried. My heart is filled with tears that I can’t even shed because it looks weak.”
He later raps on the freestyle:
“Locked in a jail but I’m gonna get free
I wear icy gold chains can’t no brass break me
P*ssy n*gga tried to assassinate me
I took the gun, turned the tables ’round like a G
R.I.P. my n*gga B-A-N-G,
Couldn’t make your funeral, but I heard that you was fleek”
Is his lawyer advising him on this, oooor…?
