19-year-old Jonathan Cruz has been accused of killing three people in four days. A witness has come forward and said that Cruz told her that he was “purging,” in reference to the movie. In the movie, the government offers civilians the opportunity to commit crimes over a 12-hour period, even murder, without prosecution.

Police have said that Cruz shot and killed Billy Boyd, Jay Higginbotham and Jose Ruiz. Cruz is jailed at the moment for an unrelated offense. The hearing on murder, robbery and other felonies will be held on Thursday. Cruz could possibly facing the death sentence.
