According to the newspaper from Prince’s hometown, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the iconic singer’s exact cause of death was an opioid overdose. They cited a source familiar with the investigation.

The day before Prince died, his team called an opioid addiction specialist in California for “urgent” help, according to an attorney working for the specialist. Federal prosecutors and the Drug Enforcement Administration are investigating how Prince obtained prescription medications and from whom.
