After much speculation, hoax stories, and fake bids, we can try to put this American nightmare behind us as George Zimmerman’s gun he used to shoot and kill Trayvon Martin with, has reportedly sold for $138,900.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that the winning bid came from a John Smith in Alabama. Initially seven users bid on the Kel-Tec PF-9 pistol, but that number has since been corrected to nine users bidding over 180 times.
The site that auctioned the gun, UnitedGunGroup, released a statement via Twitter:
“For Immediate Release:
George Zimmerman has informed United Gun Group that he currently is in the process of vetting several offers and verifying funds. We had two auctions running simultaneously, one for the pre-qualified bidders, one for the public. Our part in this process is over and we are going to get back to business as usual. Its important to understand United Gun Group will always make all decisions solely based on the laws of the United States of America. Having this stance ensures that every member is treated 100% equal regardless of personal opinions. We will not have further comment on this issue. United Gun Group www.unitedgungroup.com”
