It looks like Nintendo is trying to extend their reach to the box office as Nintendo’s CEO announces plans to release movies in the upcoming years!
Nintendo’s CEO Tatsumi Kimishima revealed in an interview with Asahi Shimbun that the famous gaming company has plans to begin creating films for the big screen!
Kimishima said to Asahi Shimbun that in order to begin making movies they must first invest in video production so they can actually be successful on a global scale. Although these are only the beginning stages, Kimishima wants their films to be in production within five years.
While Kimishima hasn’t released whether their first movie will be a Mario film, he did say,
“We’d like to use IP that is popular with everyone. I can’t say it’ll be Mario – just that we’ll do things that people will be familiar with.”
I’m excited to see what Nintendo has in store for a movie. I know there will certainly be elements of nostalgia in all of us when we finally view the films.
Who do you think the first movie Nintendo produces will be about?
