It’s not really a surprise but Karl Anthony-Towns has been named the NBA Rookie of the Year. Towns won by a unanimous vote and makes back-to-back years a Minnesota Timberwolves player won the award, joining Andrew Wiggins of last season.
Towns was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 draft after playing for the Kentucky Wildcats. He received all 130 first place votes in voting among sportswriters and broadcasters in the United States and Canada and became the fifth unanimous choice since Ralph Sampson won it in after the 1983-84 season; others include Damian Lillard (2012-13), Blake Griffin(2010-11) and David Robinson (1989-90).
He averaged 18.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks and helped the Timberwolves win 13 more games than they did the previous season.
Coming in second was New York Knicks’ Kristaps Porzingis, third Denver Nuggets’ Niklola Jokic, fourth Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker and Philadelphia 76ers’ Jahlil Okafor rounded out the top five.
