Did the “million in one week” curse just happen to Drake? Those artists known to sell that much in an album’s opening week have been known to drop dramatically the following week and Drake has joined that list after Views had a massive opening week with 1.04 million copies of Views sold, than last week only selling 175,000 units. Still huge numbers for majority of artists these days, but for an artist of Drake’s platform – a stumbling performance.
With 852,000 copies sold in its first week with 1.04 million sales plus streaming units, Views moved another 175,000 copies (219,000 SPS) in week 2. Drizzy kept the number one spot on the Billboard charts, still remaining above Beyonce’s Lemonade at #2 and Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool at #3.
He joins the list of hip-hop artists who see massive drops in album sales from week #1 to week #2 in the likes of Mac Miller’s Blue Slide Park (83%), Kanye West’s Yeezus (80%), Jay Z’s Kingdom Come (79%), and Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (78%). Drizzy’s joint project with Future, What A Time To Be Alive, also suffered one of the worst drops in history as well with an 81% decline in second week sales.
Views marks Drake’s lowest rated album to date and received mixed reviews after it’s release. Was it really all just Hype?
