There’s been rumblings about a possible boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Famed trainer Freddie Roach says he’s totally down to train McGregor as a boxer but there’s just one problem; Roach says McGregor needs three years before he’ll be ready to fight Mayweather.
Roach is widely regarded as one of the best boxing trainers in the world. He’s trained Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Julio César Chávez, Jr. and more. While talking with “Fight Hub TV”, he said he got a call from someone (presumably from Conor’s camp) asking him to train the UFC star.
Freddie says he’s up for the challenge but says there’s no way McGregor can hang with Mayweather without putting some serious work in and it’ll take time.
“I’d have to train him for at least three years to get him ready for Mayweather,” Roach said.
“I mean he’s good at MMA … but boxing? Hell no.”
Also remember it was a trained boxer who took down Ronda Rousey. Holly Holm was a champion boxer before switching over to UFC. It might seem like a UFC fighter can hang but boxing is a totally different beast.
