Trash-man by day, Grim Sleeper by night. Los Angeles man nicknamed the “Grim Sleeper” was convicted of two hands full of murders.
Lonnie David Franklin Jr. was found guilty Thursday of 10 murders, 9 women and 1 girl over the course of 30 years. He got the name “Grim Sleeper” because of the 13 year gap between the slayings he was convicted of. It was said that he raped these women, killed them, then dumped their bodies. During the three month trial, there were testimonies from 61 witnesses. Everyone of these crimes were premeditated.
One woman however had survived. In 1988, Franklin persuaded Enietra Washington into his car. When she got in he pulled a handgun out and shot her in the chest. She stated that she remembers a flashing light and after that blacking out. He pushed her out of the moving vehicle assuming she was dead. Two whole decades later, detectives search Franklin’s house where they find those pictures hidden behind a wall.
The Los Angeles Superior Court will now enter the penalty phase. Jurors will be asked whether or not Franklin should be put to death or sentenced to jail for these crimes.
