This is truly an odd situation as usually it’s the team owners and front office that want to bring a star player back despite health concerns; but this time around, it’s Chris Bosh who’s desperate to play and the Miami Heat who are being extra cautious.
Chris Bosh stepped away this past All-Star break as the blood clots returned. That same condition kept him out the previous season and got extremely dangerous as the clots traveled from his calf to his lungs. Earlier on, Bosh said this time was not as serious as the last one and that he expects to return.
The Heat have made it to the Eastern Conference semi-finals against the Toronto Raptors and Bosh still hasn’t played. In addition to the statement he released, he also posted a video of him shooting jumpers in the arena, and his wife Adrienne started a Twitter hashtag #BringBoshBack.
ESPN Radio’s Dan Le Batard reported on his show today that Bosh indeed wants to play.
“This is complicated and it’s not great,” Le Batard said. “They are not in agreement here. The two sides—This runs the risk of getting problematic here at a bad time, because Chris Bosh wants on the court… It’s obvious that Chris Bosh wants on the court and that he’s pressuring the organization…and that his wife is pressuring the organization. They were wearing the #BringBoshBack shirts (Sunday). There is a tension happening.
“I don’t know exactly what to believe here, OK, but I do trust the organization and I trust the people in the organization who tell me things because I’ve never been lied to by them about much of anything. They’re telling me that they’re protecting him from him, but he doesn’t feel any symptoms. This doesn’t feel like the last time. All the doctors the Heat are talking to are saying, and they’re the foremost authorities on this stuff, ‘Hey, a second recurrence of a blood clot situation could be catastrophic, where you’ve got a death on the court.’”
Bosh is currently taking blood thinners to deal with the clots. If he’s on them and gets hurt on the court, it could have dangerous consequences. Bosh feels he no longer needs the meds but the team wants to keep him on them. He reportedly found a doctor that’s willing to clear him.
