Just recently it was reported that Will Ferrell would be starring in a comedy based on the late President’s life during Alzheimer’s. After backlash from the Reagan family, Will Ferrell has decided to opt out.
After backlash from Reagan’s family, Will Ferrell has decided to step down from starring in and producing the film depicting a dementia suffering Reagan. The basis of the film is Reagan being convinced that he is an actor taking the role of a President. Ronald Reagan’s daughter and brother penned open letters voicing their disapproval with the film, and how insensitive it was to sufferers of dementia.
She said:
I watched as fear invaded my father’s eyes — this man who was never afraid of anything. I heard his voice tremble as he stood in the living room and said, “I don’t know where I am.
Reagan’s brother also tweeted his disapproval with the film stating:
Alzheimer’s is not a comedy to the 5 million people who are suffering. It first robs you of your mind and then it kills you
Being that this is only one of several films that has been presented to Ferrell, we can definitely expect to see him in a new project soon.
