Google, Ford, Uber, Lyft, and Volvo have come together to create a coalition aimed at pressuring government into allowing self-driving cars on the road!
The power move was announced on Tuesday by the transportation giants that they have come together to form the Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Streets. They exist as a lobbying group, advocating autonomous driving to the federal government.
The coalition will be lead by David Strickland who was an administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Read about the NHTSA twitter involvement in responding to twitter users openly admitting to their texting and driving habits.
“Self-driving vehicle technology will make America’s roadways safer and less congested,” Strickland said in a statement. “The best path for this innovation is to have one clear set of federal standards, and the Coalition will work with policymakers to find the right solutions that will facilitate the deployment of self-driving vehicles.”
I have made a few posts as of recently discussing the rapid approach of self-driving cars, and it looks like my suspicions may be confirmed. Read about Elon Musk’s project to implement self-driving cars. As well as Apple’s attempts in progressing their iCar, despite their fallout with European auto manufacturers.
More and more companies are shifting to dabbling with cars with autonomous driving capabilities so this is something that will become a legitimate topic soon before we know it. Much of these manufacturers for self-driving cars are asserting the claim that these vehicles will make road ways safer and reduce traffic congestion.
What do you think about the introduction of self-driving cars to our roads?
