The late great Prince continues to make huge feats in the music industry, even amidst his untimely death last Thursday morning. Billboard now reports that in the past 6 days, two of Prince’s albums have grabbed the No. 1 & 2 spots and another in the top 10 — not to mention soaring album sales that’s likely to even go higher.
The Minnesota musician’s greatest hits compilation, The Very Best of Prince, sold a reported 179,000 copies, claiming the No. 1 spot, and Prince’s 1984 album, Purple Rain, took No. 2, selling 69,000 copies. That’s still more than most artists do today. His total album sales for The Hits/The B-Sides, also landed at No. 6 to amount to 256,000.
This is dating the week of April 15-21, which means most of these album sales were made the same day he died. Expect Prince to be at the top of the charts next week as well. Seeing as TIDAL is the only streaming service to host the majority of Prince’s catalogue and they had Beyonce drop this weekend, TIDAL’s looking all the way up.
Rest in peace to the legend Prince.
