Tesla Motors CEO, Elon Musk, is working on a self-driving vehicle that can possibly replace buses and other forms of public transportation in cities. However, he is keeping most of the project a secret.
Tesla Motors has made it’s mark in the automobile industry with cars that contain far more sophisticated software and run on electricity. Just this month, they have received 400,000 pre-orders for its latest car, the Model 3, as it has a lesser cost than other models and is geared toward the mass market.
Now Elon Musk is looking to expand Tesla’s innovational reach by transforming the way we travel everyday on public transportation. The CEO said in a transport conference in Norway,
“We have an idea for something which is not exactly a bus but would solve the density problem for inner city situations.”
He is very focused on solving the high-density transportation problem in urban areas, and discloses,
“There’s a new type of car or vehicle that would be great for that and that’ll actually take people to their final destination and not just the bus stop.”
That sounds quite impressive and I’m very curious to see how he would pull that off. But hearing this come from Musk isn’t surprising to me either. The innovative billionaire has been exploring the idea of the, Hyperloop, essentially a tube which holds pods for people to travel over the world or country in. He has also been working with the aerospace company, Space Exploration Technologies Corp. to land humans on Mars one day.
Nevertheless, I think changes to make public transportation easier for people has been anticipated for a while now and is something I know a lot of people who live in highly-dense urban areas would love to see.
