Snapchat is facing a lot of fire after releasing their filter of Bob Marley in honor of 4/20. A lot of people are saying this is blackface. The filter includes Bob’s face infused with whoever else’s in the camera, a Rastafarian hat, and dreads.
Alot of Snapchat users spoke on how disappointed they are to see the filter. One person tweeted,
“I’m disgusted by what I’ve seen from @snapchat today, honestly can’t believe this.”
Another person tweeted,
“This Bob Marley snapchat thing is blackface in 2016 effectively. Digital disrespect”
As of now, Snapchat has not responded to the comments. Im pretty sure they meant no harm by this filter although a lot of people think it is cultural appropriation
