The New York Giants finished at 6-10 in both the 2014 and 2015 seasons.  Many players underperformed and they lost their star receiver Victor Cruz after he suffered a torn patellar tendon in 2014 that cut his season short then missed the entire 2015 season after undergoing calf surgery.  There was one bright light however, receiver Odell Beckham Jr. became an instant star when he hit the field.  Beckham broke Randy Moss’ record for most receiving yards in their first two NFL seasons.  He finished with 187 catches for 2,755 yards and 25 touchdowns while missing five games.  The Giants have tried to improve the rest of the roster this offseason, but quarterback Eli Manning says that the team needs even more from Beckham if they are going to succeed in 2016.

“Odell has obviously done great things, but we need him to raise his level as well,” Manning said on a conference call.

Manning did seem to realize he’s asking a lot from the receiver who’s practically carried the Giants air attack for the last two seasons, but he believes if Beckham can continue to hone his technique, the club can utilize the youngster more.

“There are things he can work on and we ask a lot of him,” Manning said. “He’s required to know a lot of different routes and a lot of techniques and exactly how to do it. That’s the way he’s gonna get a lot of balls and be in position to do a lot of things.”

Of course Beckham is not perfect and there’s certainly ways he can improve his game, but even if he does, it won’t be enough.  The Giants just don’t have any other offensive weapons.  Rueben Randle departed for the Philadelphia Eagles, hopefully Victor Cruz returns healthy.
