More details are coming out about the Will Smith case and the evidence so far seem to support Cardell Hayes’ story. It was initially reported that Hayes shot Smith and his wife Raquel after rear-ending their Mercedes and getting into a verbal altercation. Hayes’ lawyer John Fuller says his client was not the aggressor; he implied that Smith was intoxicated and had a gun in his car. Well now the gun has been found.
Earlier today I posted the surveillance video of a Mercedes truck that appears to be Will Smith’s, rear-ending Cardell Hayes’ Hummer. Hayes then pulled over to assess the situation but Smith drove off. Hayes then followed him, hit Smith’s car, exchanged words, and that’s when the fatal shooting occurred.
At least one witness claimed that Smith said he was going to get his gun during the heated argument following the fender bender and that’s when Hayes pulled out his weapon and opened fire. Smith’s body was found slumped on the steering wheel with his feet out the ground, he was shot in the back.
After executing a search warrant that allowed them to search Smith’s Mercedes, the New Orleans PD says they found a fully 9mm loaded handgun in his car.
The discovery will help the defense, as Hayes claimed he felt threatened by Smith at the time of the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing. The preliminary hearing is set for April 28th.
