Pablo Lucio Vasquez was executed Wednesday for the murder he committed in 1998. Vasquez was convicted of the murder of 12-year-old David Cardenas. He slit the young boy’s throat and then went on to drink his blood. In a video confession, he admitted to hitting the boy in the head with a pipe and then slitting his throat. He said he tried to cut Cardenas’s head off completely but could not get it all the way. So graphic. How could anyone do this to a child? How could anyone do this period?!
Vasquez apologized to the victims family but that could never replace their lost one. He said in his final statement,
“This is the only way that I can be forgiven. You got your justice right here.”
As Vasquez received his lethal injection, he said he felt a little dizzy. He said,
“See you on the other side.”
Vasquez was looking toward a window where two of his sisters, a brother-in-law and a cousin watched him die.
He dies 24 minuets later.
Vasquez said the reason that he killed Cardenas because he was drinking alcohol, smoking pot and snorting cocaine, when voices inside of his head told him to kill the 12-year-old. He says the young boy was still alive when he began to drink the blood.
“The blood was dripping and (I) got it all over my face. So, I don’t know, I mean something just told me drink.”
