Back in 2015, Freddy Centeno was shot seven times by two cops. The officers claimed that the man refused to get down when asked and reached in his pants for what they believe was a gun. The family was able to obtain the body cameras that were on the officers. Honestly, the footage is truly graphic and sad. Im not sure one can watch it without cringing.
The police were responding to a call from a woman who said she was being threatened by a shirtless man with a gun. The officers identify themselves and start shooting damn there immediately after Centeno did not get down. They fired 9 shots. 7 of them actually hit the man. The “gun” that Centeno was holding was actually a garden hose nozzle.
Fresno Deputy Chief Pat Farmer said,
“It’s black in color. It has a trigger on it. It’s not a water gun, but it’s some type of spray device that looks like a pistol.”
The video showed about two seconds between the time the officers asked the man to lie down and the time they fired.
