As he’s gearing up for retirement, Kobe Bryant has been more candid with the media and giving more inside information about his storied career. He already let us know that Tony Allen is the toughest defender he ever faced but who’s the best competitor? Well for Kobe, that answer was easy.
Kobe Bryant was asked who’s the best competitor he’s ever faced in his career. He laughed: “Seriously? Michael Jordan.”

Jordan is considered the greatest of all time by many so that’s not a shocking answer. MJ is also the player Kobe is most compared to, which makes the answer interesting.
Unfortunately for fans, Jordan retired for three years in the late ’90s, so the duo only faced off against each other for four years, two of which is when Jordan played for the Washington Wizards in his later years.
Here’s the stats of how they performed against each other:
Bryant | Category | Jordan |
22.8 | Points | 24.5 |
4.4 | Rebounds | 4.3 |
3.9 | Assists | 3.6 |
0.9 | Steals | 1.1 |
1.5 | Turnovers | 2.0 |
