Earlier today we were sad to report that Phife Dawg, a founding member of ‘A Tribe Called Quest’ had passed away at the age of 45. In a statement released by his family it has been confirmed, Phife, also known as the “Five Foot Assassin” and “Phife Diggy,” died after complications from diabetes, which he’s been battling since 1990.
Fife’s family said in a statement to Billboard;
“We regret to share the news that on Tuesday March 22nd, 2016, Malik has passed away due to complications resulting from diabetes. Malik was our loving husband, father, brother and friend. We love him dearly. How he impacted all our lives will never be forgotten. His love for music and sports was only surpassed by his love of God and family.”
Phife will be missed by the entire hip hop community. Rest in peace!
