A police officer was shot early Saturday morning in Park Forest, Illinois and is in critical condition after being airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The officer has been identified as Tim Jones and according to the Park Forest mayor he comes from a family of police officers. Jones has been apart of the police department for a year now.

Officer Tim Jones was wounded while exchanging gun fire with a man that he encountered while responding to a report of breaking glass early in the morning. The gunman has been pronounced dead and has been identified ad Thurman Reynold, 21, of Park Forest.
Police found a stolen car on the property, and encountered a man leaving the house, which was supposed to be vacant. Police were investigating a break-in to a home and a stolen vehicle found at that location. When it was learned that a person was inside of the residence, a perimeter was set up around the building. A suspect exited the home and as officers attempted to detain him, he produced a handgun and began shooting at officers. Officers fired back hitting the suspect. Tim Jones was the one officer hit and suffered life threatening injuries.
The incident is being investigated by the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force, per protocol.
