The agent who first discovered Judge Judy is suing the people who produces the show for not paying him his cut. Richard Lawrence who runs Rebel Entertainment, says that ‘Judge Judy’ the show has ranked in $1.7 BILLION since the show came out in 1996. He believes he is being shortchanged and not seeing his cut.
Lawrence claims he met Judge 20 years ago. They put the show together with an agreement that his company would see 5% of all profits earned. He claims he has not seen any profits since 2010. Rebel Entertainment is saying that Judy’s profit doubled in 2009. She made approximately $45 million. Sources say that Judgy makes $47 million a year. Judge Judy released a stament saying she hasn’t even heard from Richard Lawrence yet somehow she owes him money.
“The fact that Richard Lawrence is complaining about my salary is actually hilarious. I met Mr. Lawrence for 2 hours some 21 years ago. Neither I nor anyone involved in the day-to-day production of my program has heard from him in 20 years. Not a card, not a gift, not a flower, not a congratulations, yet he has somehow received over $17,000,000 from my program. My rudimentary math translates that into $8,500,000 an hour for Mr. Lawrence. Not a bad payday. Now complaining about not getting enough money, that’s real chutzpah!”
