Keisha Rembert says her 7-year-old son, Rashaad Hunter, got in trouble because of his haircut. Hunter attends Greenwood Elementary School in Bessemer, Alabama. The honor roll student got kicked out of class because of a part he had in his head.
Rembert says,
“He was like upset and he said I had to come get him out of school because he was being suspended. He was pulled out of class, saying that he had a design in his head but it really wasn’t a design, it was a part.”
Rembert says her son never gets in trouble!
“He was walking with his head down, when I saw him he was like teary-eyed at first because he doesn’t want to be suspended for no part in his head. I told him, ‘Don’t hold your head down…continue to make these A’s and B’s because that part is nothing,’They need to notate or clarify what is a design? Spongebob, a part, a tennis shoe, whatever.”
Superintendent Dr. Fred Primm says that it is pretty hard to distingurise what type of hairstyles are okay to wear in black and white. He says things like these are handled on a case by case basis.
This little boy did nothing wrong and he’s being punished over a hairstyle. Terrible.
