As expected the Washington Redskins have officially released Robert Griffin III. RG3 was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and was once the face of the franchise.
Griffin was named Offensive Rookie of the Year and led the Redskins to a division title. He was thought of as a dynamic player that would finally help turn the franchise around but things soured. He lost the starting job in August and served as Washington’s No. 3 quarterback all season. He was active for one game.
The team saves $16.15 million by cutting him before March 9th. They held him up until now hoping another team might trade for him.
It’s unclear where he’ll end up but there’s a report that the Denver Broncos might have interest since Peyton Manning is retiring.
