When it was first realized ‘The Life of Pablo’ never cracked the 200 chart, Billboard’s vice president of charts and data development Silvio Pietroluongo revealed TIDAL never released their stream counts. Pietroluongo explained,
“Billboard has been informed that TIDAL is not currently reporting streams for tracks on Kanye’s album to Nielsen Music. Therefore streams from Tidal for this title will not contribute to Billboard’s chart rankings at this time.”
Recently, TIDAL released a statement to The Verge, explaining TIDAL “does share streaming data with Nielsen Music unless requested not to by an artist.”
It remains unclear why Kanye would not want to have the streaming numbers released publicly, especially since ‘TLOP’ did huge numbers on TIDAL. Reports indicate the album’s 18 tracks are currently the 18 most popular tracks on TIDAL and thanks to ‘TLOP’ the streaming service’s numbers membership numbers have doubled.
