Basketball Twitter did a collective “What?!” on Monday night when the Los Angeles Clippers revealed their new mascot Chuck the Condor. 1. The name Clippers is for the sailing ships, what the hell does a Condor have to do with that? 2. The bird looked bizarre, like a low budget cartoon bird on speed. Congratulations Clippers, you’ve provided an array of jokes for Basketball Twitter.
Chuck the Condor was lowered down from the rafters of the Staples Center during halftime of their 105-95 win over the Brooklyn Nets.
As for why they chose a Condor? “It’s like us. It used to be extinct and now it’s coming back,” said coach Doc Rivers, focusing on the positives as Twitter’s race for best joke heated up.
