Just months after hitting one million subscribers, it has been reported that TIDAL may be taken over by Samsung. The music streaming service, which was purchased by mogul, Jay Z last year for $56 million and has several artist owners is currently in negations with Samsung to take over.
TIDAL is currently worth $100 million and is home to about 2.5 million subscribers. According to sources at the New York Post, “Samsung is re-engaging; they are working on something really big, and they’re keeping it very quiet in case it leaks.” This is not the first time Jay Z has partnered with Samsung. Back in 2013, he released ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ in a deal with Samsung that included one million free downloads of the album for fans. Rihanna did something similar just a few weeks ago with her ‘ANTI’ album.
Samsung is just one company with hopes to purchase TIDAL. Sources indicate that Spotify and Google are also interested. Stay tuned for details…
