Just a few days ago, the San Francisco 49ers decided to announce they will keep Colin Kaepernick on the roster, saying they plan to keep him past the April 1st deadline where his almost $12 million dollar salary becomes guaranteed for next year. Now it doesn’t mean they were going to definitely keep him. They could have still traded or released him later this year if they felt he wasn’t going to work out but it looks like he is beating them to it, reportedly requesting a trade himself.

When the Niners hired Chip Kelly, many fans thought it could be a revival for Kap, playing in a system where he can use his athletic ability to the fullest. It seems though he just doesn’t trust the organization after being benched this past season in favor of Blaine Gabbert.
Now to be fair and real, Kap was pretty trash this season and was benched for a reason. His long term tenure in the league still remains in doubt so he shouldn’t be feeling salty towards anyone. The talk of the trade request caught Chip by surprise.
“He wants to be here,” Kelly told reporters. “He’s never expressed to me that he didn’t want to be here. He expressed to me that he’s excited about getting healthy and getting going. And we’re excited about him getting healthy and getting going.”
Coming off such a horrible year might not be the best time to be demanding trades because the interest around the league just isn’t there at the moment. Despite this past season though, he is young enough to still turn it around if he gets a chance.
