2-year-old Kaleenah Muldrow was found dead by firefighters during a fire. The baby had been left in a Brooklyn apartment while her mother, 20-year-old Leila Aquino, was out partying. Muldrow’s body was found laying under a bed in the third floor apartment. The fire was put out around 7:30am. Sources say the toddler probably hid under the bed after being afraid of the fire that had started an hour earlier.
Leila Aquino returned home at about 9:30am. Shameeka Smith who is Aquino’s neighbor says upon arrival, Aquino was yelling about her daughter being inside of the home.
“She was crying, yelling, ‘My daughter’s in there!’ ”
Firefighters could not find the body until the mother showed up saying she could not find her child. She claimed she left her daughter with someone but had no idea who she left her with. Kason Muldrow says he can not believe Aquino was not watching their child. He released a statement saying,
“I’m just at a loss for words right now. There’s really nothing I can say.”
Muldrow’s mother Shelly Archibald, says
“She was beautiful. We’re all devastated.”
Kaleenah’s paternal great-grandmother, Jean Archibald, released a statement saying,
“She used to take care of her. I’ve never heard of (Aquino) doing anything like this. I guess people change.”
Alquino is being charged with endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment. This is such a sad story. May that little soul rest in peace.
