Miss New Jersey 2013 Cara McCollum died after a terrible car crash. The accident took place on a New Jersey highway. The car spun out of control off of a roadway and into trees. Cara died at Cooper University Hospital. May her soul rest in peace.
Cara was the lead news anchor of SNJ Today. They sent out a message regarding her death and acknowledged everyone to keep her family in their prayers. A Facebook post done by her family said she died near her loved ones and her organs were donated. They said,
“We’ve prayed constantly for a miracle, and we believe God has answered our prayers. Although it’s not the miracle that we first envisioned, it’s a miracle nonetheless. In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years. … We all will miss her now that she’s gone.”
The family posted a video of Cara singing “Cups” by Anna Kendrick which was in the film “Pitch Perfect.” The lyrics in the song say “you’re gonna miss me when I’m gone.” The song was also performed as Cara won the 2014 Miss America pageant. Cara was dating a Philadelphia’s NBC news anchor by the name of Keith Jones. He took to Facebook to say
“Please accept our sincerest thanks for your heartfelt prayers,” Jones wrote on Facebook. “Words fall short of describing the pain, but I’m eternally grateful and blessed for the time I spent with Cara. Her enormous heart enriched my life and changed me forever.”
The time of the accident Cara was alone and was not wearing a seatbelt. Her Mustang went off the road on Route55 in Pittsgrove Township. State police says that Cara was going too fast and the driving conditions weren’t the best with the wet road.
Gone too soon.
Lets keep Cara’s family and friends in our prayers.
