Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’s “Uptown Funk” won two Grammy’s the other day for “Record of the Year” and “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.” Trinidad James was credited on the song due to the fact that his “All Gold Everything” was inserted in the hook. Unfortunately, this does not mean that James won a Grammy for the song.

Only performers and producers of the song actually win a Grammy. A representative told Complex,

“Songwriters do not share in the nomination or win for a GRAMMY award in a record of the year.”

Now if the track had won a “Song of the Year” award, THEN James would have been awarded with a Grammy. In that category, everyone who is involved in making the song get credit. People have been showing James love all week. He even did an interview about winning a Grammy. Sadly, James will not have a Grammy for his work being put into the song. However, he does get a percentage of the money that the song makes so thats always good!
