Manny Pacquiao is still under heavy fire for his recent anti-gay comments. The boxing superstar said people in gay relationships are worse than animals. Many people both gay and straight have spoken out against Pacquiao and now it looks like he’s going to lose a major endorsement.
Multiple sources tell TMZ Sports Nike is preparing to cut ties with Pacquiao after his latest round of anti-gay comments.
The two sides have had a relationship since at least 2006 but Nike is particularly disturbed after Pacquiao said gay people are “worse than animals” and intend to drop the boxer for good.
The move is not official yet but there have been multiple discussions and it reportedly appears to be heading in that direction.
It also appears Nike has removed all traces of Manny from its online store.
Pacquiao has often expressed anti-gay sentiments while speaking to international media but apparently fans weren’t aware?
UPDATE:
Nike has officially broken ties with Manny Pacquiao and released this statement today:
“We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent.”
“Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community.”
“We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.”
