With the lack of diversity in the Oscars (look at the above photo from their nominees brunch), the Golden Globes and more, BET Networks and the American Black Film Festival have decided to take matters into their own hands. Together, the entities have announced the ABFF Awards: A Celebration of Hollywood.
“It’s clear that there’s a need for this show,” BET’s President, Stephen Hill, said. “2015 was ripe with tremendous and inspiring performances by African Americans and we are beyond thrilled to be the ones to recognize them with class and admiration.”

The inaugural ceremony will be hosted by Mike Epps, and per the press release, “will celebrate black culture, as well as recognizing individuals, films, and television shows of the last year that affected American entertainment. The awards also look to recognize those individuals who champion diversity and inclusion inside Hollywood.”
The 2016 ABFF Awards will air February 23 at 8pm EST on BET and Centric. Will you be tuning in?
P.S. The Weeknd looks so crazily out of place in that picture…
