To commemorate Super Bowl 50, the NFL put together a montage of their best halftime show performances. One infamous performance was left out, Janet Jackson’s. Janet’s sister La Toya took to her Twitter account and asked why it was left out. Well we all know the answer to that question.
Janet Jackson’s halftime show was one of the best but the “wardrobe malfunction” which left her exposed breast and adorned nipple out for the world to see for a couple seconds, sparked massive shock and chaos.
If you don’t know what happened… At the end of that halftime show, where Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake sang a duet of the latter’s “Rock Your Body,” Timberlake ripped a piece of Jackson’s dress and exposed her breast on national television. The breast itself had a little shield that covered the nipple.
Numerous letters went sent to the FCC filled with outrage. The incident led to increased censorship and regulations, CBS was fined $550,000 (later overturned) and Jackson was blacklisted. All of which was overblown.
Anyways, here it is for your viewing pleasure.
