A former Wal-Mart employee got a major pay increase from the company after she won a lawsuit for over $31 Million. The pharmacist says her termination came shortly after reporting safety concerns and was finalized when she lost her pharmacy key. Her lawyers argued that a male pharmacist who lost his key was disciplined, but not terminated making this an act of gender discrimination.

Maureen McPadden worked at a New Hampshire Wal-Mart as a pharmacist for 13-years before she was fired in 2012 for what the jury believes was retaliation.
The pharmacist reported safety concerns to supervisors about coworkers dispensing prescriptions, which were also privacy violations. After reporting her concerns managers kept a close eye on her, disciplining her twice that year because pharmacy technicians did not file required reports on two occasions. She was ultimately fired after losing her pharmacy key.
A male pharmacist lost his key shortly after her, but was only disciplined and not fired. This led McPadden and her lawyers to believe this was not only retaliation, but always gender bias.
It has been reported that Wal-Mart plans to ask the courts to set aside the verdict or reduce the damages.
McPadden describes her sister and mother telling her to let the lawsuit go leading up to the trial, but says she was inspired by her father and his perseverance.
My father always told me that my job was very, very important and that I had a real duty to keep my patients safe. The conditions in the pharmacy were not safe. It was really in my soul to do something about it.
Wal-Mart is worth billions so them asking the courts to reduce the damages is pure greed. Although what happened may be discrepancies that the company as a whole do not tolerate, they must take ownership of what has happened in this particular case.
