O’shea Jackson Jr. recently spoke with elementary students for a MLK Day celebration. He also spoke to CelebWork where he stressed the importance of the NWA biopic potentially being able to bring peace to the world.
O’Shea believes that “Straight Outta Compton” can bring change to the world. He says,
“I feel that once you take the time to see the other’s point of view or the other’s storyline, it can lead to some positivity. That’s one thing in the movie, Straight Outta Compton, even with Jerry Heller and Suge Knight who are the obvious villain roles, we don’t show them in a super negative aspect. We see both sides of the story and it humanizes it a little bit. I figure that once the world starts to really see that and starts to really see how equal and how on the same level we all are, we’ll be in a better place.”
He went on to say that he and the rest of the cast knew that the film would start a lot of controversy. He also went on to say that they were prepared for it all.
“We wanted Straight Outta Compton to affect people the way that Straight Outta Compton the album did. We knew it’s gonna be some controversy. You can’t make the N.W.A movie without controversy. But the controversy’s really just stirring the pot, becoming the straw that stirs the drink. It’s getting people talking. Without people being aware of a problem, how can there be a solution?”
