Less than 15 hours after premiering her highly anticipated 8th studio album, Rihanna’s Anti has already hit the 1 million download mark – by taking a similar route her label boss Jay-Z did in 2013 for his Magna Carta Holy Grail album. Hit the jump.
Roc Nation’s own Rihanna partnered with Samsung to offer free download codes to her fans for Anti’s release. The Barbados native signed a reported $25 million sponsorship deal with the electronics company in 2015, when we first got wind of Anti.
In 2013, Roc Nation’s founder and owner Jay-Z incepted the marketing tool with his last studio album Magna Carta Holy Grail as a free digital download through a partnership with Samsung. The album tallied over 1 million downloads in its first week…well RiRi fared a little better in doing the same numbers in just 14 hours.
In addition to Rihanna going platinum almost immediately, Anti was also streamed more than 13 million times, in the same amount of time.
The album was released on Tidal (for which Rihanna owns 3% in the company’s stake) Wednesday night, as she took to Twitter to celebrate her achievements:
“You guys legit made me the happiest girl in the world!! I’m so grateful that you appreciate the #ANTI album! It’s the most rewarding feeling”
