Yea so this wasn’t very smart. Several Madison Square Garden employees were fired recently for violating company policy by reselling New York Knicks and New York Rangers tickets on the secondary market for a profit.
An MSG spokesperson did not disclose details of the firings but confirmed that employees had been terminated.
“It was uncovered through an internal investigation that a small handful of employees were breaking company policies, and as a result, they were relieved of their responsibilities,” an MSG spokesperson said. “As this is an employee matter, MSG will have no additional comment.”
The employees were part of the MSG sales department and had access to face-value Knicks and Rangers tickets, according to the newspaper.
Tickets for both teams routinely sell for significant profit on the secondary market, due to the scarcity of face-value tickets. The average resale price for Knicks tickets this season is currently $260.71, and the average resale price for Rangers tickets is $247.97, according to TiqIQ.com, which tracks resale prices.
Last season, the Rangers’ average resale was $229.90 and the Knicks’ was $209.30, according to TiqIQ. The average face-value tickets for the Knicks cost $129.38, according to TiqIQ. The Rangers’ average face value was $77.78
