On Friday six white high school students thought it would be cool to wear shirts spelling out the “N” word. The Arizona high school seniors will only be getting a five day suspension for the racist photo that went viral. In the the photo are Samantha Iannore, Emily Sears, Brooke Taylor, Riley Connor, Erin Lum and Rachel Steigerwald. The photo was posted to Snap Chat as the young ladies were seen grinding while proudly wearing the “N” word across their t-shirts. Smh. Check out the rest of this story after the jump.

The six young ladies wore the lettered shirts for their senior picture day as a part of a bigger message spelling out “BEST*YOU’VE*EVER*SEEN*CLASS*OF*2016.” The school district will not publicize details of the disciplinary action taken against the girls, but other students are claiming that the girls have only received a five day suspension and that is sparking even more outrage. A change.org petition was created calling for the girls to get expelled and to terminate the principal. So far the petition has gained 30,000 signatures since Friday.

Dr. Kevin J. Mendivil, Associate Superintendent of Tempe Union High School District, said “reports of a 5-day suspension are inaccurate” and that “the disciplinary process is still ongoing. ”

Police were called Friday afternoon to go to the high school to calm down outraged students as the six girls have been receiving treats since the picture has gone viral.

“The threats against these young girls is unacceptable.They made a bad mistake as many teenagers do in life. But, any threats against these young women is going to be taken very seriously.”

Wrote Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio on his Facebook.

The word nigger is a contemptuous term for black people and has been used for centuries to humiliate them and that is why many people are upset and outraged. Not to mention it is extremely offensive. I feel bad for these young ladies because they lack so much class. Myself and many others are questioning as to why they wore those shirts. I understand that teenagers do dumb things and make stupid choices but this is actually pretty ridiculous. And the people who are defending these young ladies just show they lack class just like the young girls in the picture above. Threatening the girls is just as bad. I understand that this has many people outraged but by signing the petition you can make an even bigger change than you can imagine. But girls in the words of Dj Kahled……congratulations…..you played yourself.
