Jada Pinkett Smith decided to take it to Facebook to express her frustration and thoughts on the lack of diversity shown in this year’s Academy Awards nominees. In a post Jada stated,
“At the Oscars . . . people of color are always welcomed to give out awards . . . even entertain, but we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments,”
She asked,
“Should people of color refrain from participating all together?”
Continuing,
“People can only treat us in the way in which we allow. With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment, J.”
Jada isn’t the first celeb to speak their mind this year. Just yesterday both Magic Johnson and Bun B decided to also go on social media and express their thoughts on the Oscars.
This is the second year in a row that we’ve seen no black actors in the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor or Best Supporting Actress category.
So what do you think? Should people of color refrain from participating all together?
