Tyler Perry works very hard for his. Being one of the wealthiest people in the entertainment game, he takes a lot of pride in his work, as he should. Forbes just listed Perry to be one of the highest paid men in Hollywood. Unfortunately, the media has a way of trying to destroy the best of people but Tyler Perry is not here for the games. He recently responded to a bunch of Twitter fingers who have a lot to say about his work.
People have been criticizing Perry’s work by saying he portrays African American people in a bad light.
I totally disagree. If anything, Tyler Perry does an amazing job at portraying how life truly is. The harsh reality may just be too much for people to handle. Perry released a statement saying,
“Let me tell you what took me aback about that [criticism], when people were like, ‘How dare you put fat Black people on television, these are caricatures, these are stereotypes’. I was so offended because my aunt’s fat. My mother’s fat. My cousins are fat.”
Perry says the characters in his projects represent real people with real life troubles. While doing a Good Morning America interview with Robin Roberts, Perry spoke more on the criticism he receives. He says,
“I was pretty taken back by it…I think everybody has the right to tell their story no matter who you are no matter where you come from. There’s this section of our culture that decides who should and shouldn’t speak, and who has the right to tell their stories and who shouldn’t. I think every in this country should have the right to tell their story and be represented in television fairly.”
In contrast to the negatives, Perry went on to talk about his 1-year-old son whom he loves very much.
“He is my healer, because I look at my self in his eyes. Everything that I’m finding about growing up and the things that went wrong in my life, I get the opportunity to do them right for him. So he is my healer.”
Perry is sitting on millions so if I was him I wouldnt be worried about what people say. If you aint got no haters you aint popp’n right ?
