Run the Jewels emcee Killer Mike stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night. The rapper, who quickly revealed while on the show that Run the Jewels will be performing back-to-back at Coachella, wasn’t there to talk music but more importantly race issues in America and explained the reason why he’s voting for presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

Killer Mike talked about how these race issues we face in America today are all too familiar and won’t go away until the entire system allows changes to be made. He said, “The same problems we’re discussing today, we discussed in 1990, 1980, 1970, and 1960.”
The rapper also opened up about the advice that gives to college students of privileged backgrounds. He explained, he advises them to go out and mentor a younger kid with a completely different background, whether it be race, religion or economics, and help them prepare for college the best they can. He said, “Teach them the path you were taught to help them become a successful human being.”
