Mexican drug Cartels are are becoming more and more violent towards political figures. Because these figures are looked upon as threats, they often kidnap them or murder them just to keep them off of their backs. Mayor Gisela Mota had been elected as the new Mayor of Mexico on Friday. Mota had a lot of positive visions for Mexico but unfortunately she will not be able to live any of them out due to the fact that she was murdered the day after she had been sworn in.

Saturday morning at approximately 7:30, Mota’s house was ran into by four gunmen who beat her and then shot her in the head. The gunmen tried to escape. After gunfire was exchanged police killed two of the men and took the other two into custody. Mota’s murder took place in Temixco, the largest city in the city of Morelos. Temixco is also known to be one of the most violent cities.

Morelos Governor Ramirez took to twitter to state that there would be no “impunity” in the murder of Mayor Gisela Mota and also that state officials are not backing down a “challenge from criminals.”
A crime such as this one is no suprise to Temixco. For the protection of Americans, The US Department of State has gave a warning for those venturing to Morelos. The warning says,

“Exercise caution in the state of Morelos due to the unpredictable nature of organized crime violence. You should also defer non-essential travel on any roads between Huitzilac in the northwest corner of the state and Santa Marta in the state of Mexico, including the Lagunas de Zempoala National Park and surrounding areas. Numerous incidents of organized crime-related violence have also occurred in the city of Cuernavaca.”
