Most 20 year old kids with access to millions of dollars would have a hard time containing themselves and not burning through wads of cash unnecessarily. Kristaps Porzingis is the biggest sensation in the most famous city in the world but even at his young age he is showing he is mature beyond his years.

Rather than buying or renting a crazy luxury apartment in lower Manhattan because he can afford it, Porzingis is laying low and living modestly in White Plains with his parents and brothers. It’s a decision that be believes prevents him from getting himself into positions he wouldn’t want to be in.
“It’s always good to have support around as young as I am and New York with a lot of attention,” Porzingis said Friday, according to the New York Post’s Marc Berman. “My family’s around to make sure I’m doing the right thing and staying out of trouble and focused on basketball. For me, it’s great to have family around.”
He isn’t of legal age to drink anyway but it’s not like that actually prevents young people from drinking. Not too mention the legal age to drink is 18 back in his native Latvia but he still stays away from it.
Porzingis gave alot of credit to the program the NBA conducts for rookies entering the league.
“A lot of good information in the program,” Porzingis said. “The rookie transition program won’t save you from those situations, but it tells you how to react and (offers) a lot of good information for us to be careful and know what (could) be coming.
“They gave us information about guns, when you’re going out, how you should react if somebody’s trying to provoke you.”
Porzingis’s teammate Cleanthony Early was shot and robbed earlier this week, which he said was “sad” but solidifies his decision to stay low key.
