Six months ago, SpaceX experienced an epic fail. Their space craft blew up before it even reached the higher levels of the atmosphere. This signaled not only a multi-million dollar loss but also a huge discouragement to their ultimate goals of successful space flights and missions.

Therefore, SpaceX currently is over the moon (lulz) about their successful space mission. They launched eleven (count ’em: 11) satellites to join seven already orbiting. ORBCOMM will control the satellites to deploy information to machines on Earth. ORBCOMM deals with machine-to-machine technology as well as the Internet of Things.

Not only did SpaceX successfully complete this launch, they landed the “first stage” back to the ground in Florida. This is a first, a huge development for space technology. Landing the first stage means that not all of the pieces required to launch space crafts are disposable now. Never before have any of the initial materials used to launch a mission survived the launch. Mostly, first stage (fuel and rockets used to get the space crafts off the ground) equipment either blows up on the launch pad or falls back to Earth into the ocean (ideally) after making liftoff.
